UPDATE: MTSU student shot in back by stranger

A 23-year-old MTSU student was shot in the back by a stranger as he walked from the parking lot to his College Point apartment late Friday, he told police shortly after being shot. Shashanka Pulluru, a master’s candidate majoring in business at the university, is listed as a no information patient at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, according to a Vanderbilt public affairs spokeswoman. He was transferred to the hospital around midnight Friday from Middle Tennessee Medical Center.
