Shipyard to replace lost lots

The losses will start in the spring, when work begins on the AREVA Newport News building. NEWPORT NEWS - Northrop Grumman Corp. is working on a plan to replace about 1,300 parking slots that will be lost once the company and French nuclear giant AREVA begin construction next year on a 300,000 square-foot building on the north end of the Newport News shipyard. The building, which will house AREVA Newport News, a new joint venture that will build reactor parts, steam generators and other large components for nuclear power plants, is expected to break ground in April or May 2009 on top of an existing parking area for shipyard employees and Navy sailors.
