What a Great Blacks Week!

Posted to the web 11 November 2008 Lute Wa Lutengano Arusha First it was a 23 year old black Jo-Wilfried Tsongas, who in his childhood was taught to finish everything on his plate. Early this week he won the Paris Maters, a prestigious lawn tennis tournament. Tsongas, who has mixed heritage having a French mother, Evelyn and a Congolese father, Didier, beat an Argentine David Nabandian 6-3 4-6 6-4 in the final in Paris. Two years back he was 250th in the world of tennis. But here he was, having beaten some of the great names in the game including number three Novak Djokovic and Americans Andy Roddic and James Blake. Mind you, lawn tennis is an elite game of the affluent and has been mainly a whites-only game until the arrival of the likes of Arthur Ashe some years ago and the two Serena sisters.
