WORLD WARNER II

IT was the top-grossing film of 1943 and stars a future president and a future US senator working under the director of "Casablanca." Yet "This Is the Army," a Technicolor World War II musical based on a famous fund-raising show, has never had an official DVD release until now. After the film circulated for decades in bootlegs that were often incomplete, with poor quality images and sound, Warner Bros., which donated the title in 1950 to the Army Relief Fund, has licensed the title from the Fund (and the score from a charity founded by composer Irving Berlin) to bring out a gorgeous restoration as the centerpiece of the "Warner Bros. and the Homefront Collection," released to coincide with Veterans Day today.
