Has Barack Obama's election helped pave the way? • The answer: Former Chicagoan and bishop of Belleville, Ill., Wilton Gregory, who is now archbishop of Atlanta -- and was the first African-American to head the U.S. Bishops Conference -- thinks so. • The reason: Gregory told the Italian newspaper La Stampa, when the cardinals gather next time to elect a pope they could -- "in their wisdom" -- choose an African pontiff. Rahm 'em: Dem strategist/CNN pundit Paul Begala, who worked with Obama's new chief-of-staff Rahm Emanuel at the Clinton White House, once described Emanuel's aggressive style as a "cross between a hemorrhoid and a toothache."
