The Labour v SNP fight in today's Glenrothes by-election has been dominated by the involvement of Alex Salmond, First Minister, and his counterpart Gordon Brown, the Prime Minister. As the constituency neighbouring Mr Brown's own fiefdom, and a long-standing Labour seat at Westminster, this should be very much a 'home' fixture for Labour. But Mr Salmond always has an eye for the half chance, and has nailed his colours to a particularly handy mast that Mr Brown cannot venture near. Because as everyone in the country knows, the Prime Minister is a Raith Rovers supporters.
