CTV.ca News Staff For years, Stephen Walker struggled with basic tasks. Sitting in a chair, tying his shoes, even crossing his legs was difficult. That was back when he weighed more than 800 pounds and was relegated to living in a wheelchair in his home in Saint John, N.B. "I was in a wheelchair for almost nine years," Walker told CTV's Canada AM on Wednesday. "I had to have my home renovated to accommodate me." The situation was dire. He couldn't go many places, he was hooked up to an oxygen machine when he slept, and he was taking 35 pills a day to deal with the complications caused by his extreme size. He decided enough was enough after spending five days in hospital, with doctors telling him he was a near-lock for a heart attack or a stroke. A year and a half later, Walker has lost 600 pounds.
