The state government on Thursday gave permission for the prosecution of 12 IPS officers allegedly involved in a police recruitment scam during the Mulayam Singh Yadav regime. However, the government has sought the approval of the central government in the matter. The state government said on Thursday that it had written to the Centre seeking its approval for the prosecution. The Anti-Corruption Organisation had investigated 42 cases of large-scale corruption in police recruitment in 2005 and 2006 under Samajwadi Party rule.
