Burnham Market: Hat's a lot of needlework

Published Date: 10 October 2008 IT'S hats off to public-spirited June Bednall. She has just knitted more than 1,000 bobble hats to help raise money for the Burnham Market Community Centre. But these are no ordinary hats. They are the size of an egg cosy and their purpose is to sit on top of an Innocent brand fruit drink in a collaboration between the company and Sainsbury's to raise money for Age Concern. This year the aim is to persuade knitters countrywide to knit no fewer than half a million hats. Each hat is worth 50p to the charity and they will be used as a woolly cap on top of all the bottles of drink on the superstore's shelves during November.
