Barbara Hogan spent eight years in prison for fighting apartheid South Africa's new Health Minister, Barbara Hogan, has called for a renewed global effort to find a vaccine for HIV which can lead to Aids. She is a sharp contrast to her predecessor, Manto Tshabalala-Msimang, who spent years resisting the introduction of anti-retroviral drugs. Ms Hogan said it was unquestionable that HIV caused Aids and conventional medicines were the best treatment. She suggested time had been wasted in the country's battle against Aids.
