Prattville City Council to discuss disputed shopping center

Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Oct. 13--PRATTVILLE -- Prattville city councilmen during a Tuesday night work session will hash out a controversial incentives package proposed to land a 200,000-square-foot shopping center. The board will discuss "Project K," the name given to the effort to bring the development to east Prattville's surging retail corridor. The center will be called The Exchange at HomePlace, according to city records. The plan is to rebate half the city portion of sales tax collected at the center, up to $9 million, to help the developer pay construction costs. The city will not borrow any money under the plan, and won't be responsible for the debt, said Rod Morgan, finance director.
