Sale made the perfect start to their campaign after they travelled to Clermont and picked up a winning bonus point after an impressive 32-15 victory. All Black Luke McAllister was the stand-out performer, picking up 17 points, courtesy of a try, three conversions and two penalties. Clermont, who limited Munster to a losing bonus point at the same venue last season, could only manage five penalties from barely held on for a 12-6 victory at Welford Road yesterday after a spirited challenge from the Ospreys almost secured an away win.
