Prayer, forgiveness helped carry Tutsi woman through tragedy By Paul Srubas • psrubas@greenbaypressgazette.com • October 13, 2008 DE PERE — Her story is one of unimaginable terror and hardship, but when Immaculee Ilibagiza tells it, it's a story of hope, the saving power of prayer and the healing power of forgiveness. Ilibagiza, survivor of the 1994 Rwandan genocide and author of two books, spoke before about 1,000 people Sunday at St. Norbert College, in an event sponsored by the college's Peace and Justice Center and the Christian Foundation of Northeast Wisconsin. Following the launch of civil war in her country, the Hutu tribe launched a campaign of genocide against the rival Tutsi tribe, of which Ilibagiza is a member.
