Japan voters want economic steps before election

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japanese voters want the government to prioritise economic steps instead of focussing on an early election, a media survey showed on Monday, the latest sign that Prime Minister Taro Aso may delay calling a general election. Aso, who took office last month after his predecessor suddenly quit, had been widely expected to call a November election to break a policy deadlock. But that speculation is waning as fears grow about the fallout on Japan's faltering economy from the global financial crisis, as well as concerns the ruling coalition could lose if an election were held now.
