Kiwi second in Texas

New Zealander Tim Wilkinson flirted with the thought of recording his maiden PGA Tour title before finishing in a career-best equal-second place at the Texas Open in San Antonio. Wilkinson started the day three behind overnight leader Rory Sabbatini and held the lead twice on the back nine, most notably after the 14th hole where he made a brilliant eagle three. The 30-year-old shared top spot at that stage with American Zach Johnson and South Korean Charlie Wi - the latter reaching the lead at 17-under thanks to a blistering final round of nine-under 61. Wilkinson had opportunities down the last four holes, including a lipped-out birdie at the 15th, but had to settle for the runner-up spot as Johnson birdied 14 and 18 to take the title by two strokes.
