McDermott • Staff writer • October 12, 2008 When asked to name the most important issue facing the nation, the state, Monroe County and the city of Rochester, respondents to a recent Voice of the Voter poll overwhelmingly answered: It's the economy, stupid. Reflecting what a national pollster termed the country's mood of "anger, anxiety, disruption and uncertainty," more than two-thirds of poll respondents said the nation's biggest challenges right now concern jobs and the economy, Wall Street, credit problems and the banking crisis. Given the constant background drumbeat of bank failures, a credit crunch, federal dollars propping up Wall Street and a falling stock market, that's an unsurprising yet marked change from last year, when the top national issues on voters' minds were the war in Iraq and terrorism....
