Survivor Sam turns on style for big day

A CASTLETON woman has celebrated a milestone birthday she once thought she might not reach by raising money for the hospital where she had vital transplant surgery more than 16 years ago. Sam Baker was only 23 and recently married when she underwent a life-changing kidney transplant at Hope Hospital in Salford. She battled though complications, including the initial rejection of the organ and a subsequent hip replacement at the age of 26, which she needed after steroids made her tiny frame balloon by more than five stone. Despite the setback, she went on to have two healthy children, Heather, aged 12, who was born only a year after her hip replacement, and Bradley, 10.
