14 killed in Peru in worst Shining Path attack in 10 years!

Lima, Oct 11: Shining Path guerrillas ambushed a military convoy in southern Peru, killing at least 12 soldiers and two civilians in the bloodiest attack in a decade in a country still haunted by the Maoist group's brutal insurgency, the military has said. The ambush, which also wounded at least 17 people, occurred Thursday night against a convoy of four Army trucks transporting troops and civilians near the Ene-Apurimac river valley in Huancavelica department, which is in the Andean mountains about 250 kilometers southeast of the capital Lima. The death and injury tolls were revised downwards from an earlier report that gave 19 killed - 12 military and seven civilians - and 11 injured, after a military patrol visited the area where the clash took place, the armed forces said in a statement yesterday.
