Hewett to enter plea Monday on embezzlement, obstruction

Brunswick's former sheriff faces 4 charges BOLIVIA, N.C. -- One week after being sentenced to 16 months in prison on a federal obstruction-of-justice charge, former Brunswick County sheriff Ronald Hewett will enter his plea on state charges of embezzlement by a public official and obstructing justice. It was unclear Friday what that plea will be when he appears in the Brunswick County Courthouse at 10 a.m. on Monday. District Attorney Rex Gore declined to comment Friday, citing N.C. law. A call to Hewett's home was not returned. Roy Trest, Hewett's attorney for the state charges, could not be reached for comment Friday.
