Cleviprex IV therapy approved by FDA

Cleviprex causes blood pressure to fall quickly in cases of severe hypertension. Cleviprex can be compared to traditional agents such as nicardipine, labetalol, and nitroglycerin. Most patients achieve full recovery of blood pressure 5-15 minutes after the infusion is stopped. Cleviprex should not be administered in the same line as other medications and it should not be diluted. The Medicines Company recently received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Cleviprex (clevidipine butyrate) injectable emulsion for the reduction of blood pressure when oral therapy is not feasible or not desirable.
