Scotland boss George Burley has explained how establishing himself as a first-team regular at Manchester United helped Darren Fletcher land the Scotland captaincy for Saturday's World Cup qualifier against Norway. Burley yesterday named the midfielder as his latest skipper in the absence of Barry Ferguson and Stephen McManus. The honour continues a good month for Fletcher, who will win his 40th Scotland cap in this weekend's Group Nine clash at Hampden Park. After being a bit-part player in his early career at Old Trafford, the 24-year-old has been virtually an ever present this term and last week signed a three-year contract extension.
