Gordon Brown to campaign personally in Glenrothes byelection

Scottish secretary says Brown has decided to take part despite convention keeping PMs away Gordon Brown plans to personally campaign to retain Labour's seat in Glenrothes at the forthcoming byelection, despite the convention that prime ministers avoid byelection contests. Jim Murphy, the newly appointed Scottish secretary, said that Brown had already decided to take part in the campaign because it was the neighbouring seat to his own Fife constituency. The byelection is due to take place on November 6, two days after the US presidential election.
