One Minute With: Katie Melua

Where are you? In an airport in Port Elizabeth, at gate five, waiting to board a flight to Cape Town with my band and crew. We're in the middle of a short South African tour. What are you currently listening to? PJ Harvey's White Chalk album, one of the best albums of this year. It's very haunting and sad. She's got an incredible piano sound in it and her lyrics are beautiful. Who is your favourite singer? Joni Mitchell is one of my all-time favourites. I got into her first album when I was 17, and it had a song on it called "Marcie", about a woman missing her loved one and being lonely. I find her lyrics very inspiring, and since then I've bought most of her albums. I love her recent stuff, like Both Sides Now, as her voice is deeper and huskier and so much sexier.
