People Daily: Cultivation resumes in some Myanmar flood-hit areas

Filed under: News, Inside Burma Farmers in some flood-hit areas in Myanmar have resumed cultivation as the water has receded there, the official newspaper New Light of Myanmar reported Wednesday. Over the past week, torrential rain had caused flood in some areas of Myanmar, prompting local residents to evacuate and close down schools temporarily in the affected areas. According to the report, some areas in Tanintharyi, Sagaing, Bago, Mandalay, Yangon and Ayeyawaddy divisions, and Kayin, Mon and eastern Shan states were affected with some houses and monsoon paddy fields under water. The flood also caused damage to some road sections. The landslide in Mogok has reportedly killed five family members and a guest when their house was buried in the mishap.
