New figures reveal Britain is the world's sixth largest importer of water, and our water 'footprint' is threatening global reserves. Astonishingly, only 38 percent of our consumption is from domestic sources, with the rest imported from countries facing serious shortages. The average person uses a massive 4,645 litres of water every day. Drinking and washing use up just 150 litres per person, then there are the 'hidden' gallons used in the production of our food and clothing.
