In Oklahoma, district attorneys are members of the executive branch. That means Gov. Brad Henry should have something to say when a DA starts dancing over the edge of acceptable conduct. Although he still refuses to talk to this newspaper, District 18 District Attorney Jim Bob Miller (who was first appointed to his august office by Henry) is talking. He told KOTV Channel 6 he was just another citizen and, as such, he plans to press his criminal libel complaint against Harold King. Constitutional scholars and First Amendment experts are using terms like “heavy handed” and “chilling” to define Miller’s actions. Monday’s television appearance by the DA did nothing to require those terms be updated.
