Former big-league pitcher Geremi Gonzalez died a few months ago when he was struck by lightning. Unusual, but true. Earlier in his career, his teams spelled his first name “Jeremi.” Anyway, Gonzalez didn’t have a long or particularly noteworthy career. In 2003, he had one of fewer than a dozen seasons by a Rays pitcher with at least 150 IP and an ERA+ of 110 or better. He still went just 6-11, though. Since 1958, Gonzalez had one of the lowest W-L% for a starting pitcher meeting those criteria. I’m sure it’s because the Rays didn’t score any runs.
