Gemayel welcomes Karami’s call for Tripoli to disarm

Leader of the Kataeb party Amin Gemayel welcomed former Prime Minister Omar Karami’s call to disarm Tripoli. After a meeting with Palestinian Liberation Organization Representative Abbas Zeki on Monday, Gemayel said that Karami’s suggestion was a good start, and said he hoped it would initiate the process of removing “security zones from Lebanese territory, as they lead to conflicts in Beirut, Taalabaya, Saadnayel, and elsewhere.â€_ Rejecting demands that the number of representatives at the national dialogue be increased, Gemayel said that “things should remain as they are, as everyone is already either directly or indirectly represented… We do not know where we might reach and this will reduce the dialogue’s efficiency.â€_ “We must concentrate on basic issues and leave secondary ones for later discussions.â€_...
