Soldier troubled by mental wars he waged on himself - Clarksville (TN) Leaf Chronicle

By JAKE LOWARY - August 17 Spc. Carl B. McCoy was a good husband, father and soldier, his family and brothers in arms say, but he was troubled by mental wars he waged on himself. McCoy, 23, committed suicide July 11, following a battle with alcohol, a custody fight over his son and two draining deployments to Iraq. "When he had his son with him, you wouldn't see him any happier," said his wife, Sgt. Maggie McCoy. Maggie and Carl McCoy were married in March, after courting while a part of the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C. They returned from Iraq in December 2007, after a 15-month deployment. The two moved to Clarksville in April and May, when they were given their official change of duty station.
