Minister of National Defence and Chief of the Defence Staff Visit Yellowknife

Yellowknife, N.W.T. - The Honourable Peter Gordon Mackay, Minister of National Defence, and General Walt Natynczyk, Chief of the Defence Staff, will be visiting Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, on August 18, 2008. This is the first tour of the Arctic for both Minister MacKay and General Natynczyk. Over the next five days, they will also visit Iqaluit, Nanisivik, Arctic Bay and Alert to view Canadian Forces (CF) efforts in the north first-hand. The Canadian Forces has a significant role to play in the Arctic, assisting other government departments in assuring Arctic security and national sovereignty.
