When in doubt, let the audience figure it out

By the time you read about Perry Vasquez's exhibition, it might have a title. And whenever it gets a title, someone other than the artist will have named it. Vasquez's show, which opened last night at Balboa Park's Centro Cultural de la Raza, includes new prints, collectively titled “P.L.A.T.O.” Along with these new images will be an installation entitled “Title Piece.” And for “Title Piece,” he's including some cards with the question: “What do the letters P.L.A.T.O. stand for?” He's inviting viewers to answer the question in writing, for as long as the cards last – and he'll likely choose one to be the title of his show.
