NC Transportation Museum to get New Orleans streetcar

Posted: Today at 4:03 a.m. Updated: Today at 4:19 a.m. SALISBURY, N.C. — The North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer will get a new exhibit in a couple of years. Thomas Built Buses will restore one of its streetcars and add it to the museum. Streetcar 918 worked on the rails of Canal Street in New Orleans until its final run on May 31, 1964. The Salisbury Post reports it should be added to the museum's historical trains, planes and automobiles in early 2010. Last summer, Thomas donated a working 1940 school bus to the state's Transportation Museum. The High Point company began its school bus line in 1936. But it wasn't known as Thomas Built Buses until 1972. The former Perley A. Thomas Car Works was founded in 1916 making streetcars. Daimler Trucks North America bought Thomas Built Buses...
