Lo Duca returns — in minors

BY JUAN C. RODRIGUEZ | South Florida Sun-Sentinel NEW YORK - The Marlins added catching depth Friday, though he wasn't their first choice. Released by the Nationals on Aug. 1, former Marlin Paul Lo Duca is back in the organization. The Marlins signed him to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Albuquerque. He likely doesn't figure in their immediate plans, but provides veteran depth if rookie John Baker falters or Matt Treanor, just off the disabled list, has a recurrence of his hip injury. The catcher they really wanted was Astros catcher Brad Ausmus. A three-time Gold Glove winner, the most recent coming in 2006, Ausmus is eligible for free agency at season's end.
