Released by the Nationals on Aug. 1, former Marlin Paul Lo Duca is back in the organization. The Marlins signed him to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Albuquerque. He likely doesn't figure in their immediate plans, but provides veteran depth if rookie John Baker falters or Matt Treanor, just off the disabled list, has a recurrence of his hip injury. The catcher they really wanted was Astros catcher Brad Ausmus. A three-time Gold Glove winner, the most recent coming in 2006, Ausmus is eligible for free agency at season's end.
