No representation has risks, rewards Perish the thought, Hollywood. But does everyone really need an agent? Judging from this summer’s hit films, one could argue that agents are so 2007. George Lucas, Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron and Gwyneth Paltrow are all basking in big box office scores over the past three months. They’re also the latest big talent to work without an agent (though Paltrow did book her “Iron Man” gig with a hand from her former CAA reps). “Wall-E” director Andrew Stanton and “Hellboy II: The Golden Army” star Ron Perlman also operate in the agent-free zone. So, too, do two of Hollywood’s biggest above-the-marquee names, Leonardo DiCaprio and Peter Jackson, who, though out of the mix this summer, manage just fine without the assistance of an agent.
