Notts made to fight for top spot

Alfonso Thomas nipped out Matthew Wood early in Notts' victory chase Nottinghamshire face a battle to end the latest round of matches on top of LV County Championship Division One after losing three early wickets in their victory chase against Somerset at Taunton. Having been bowled out for 106 first time around, Somerset made a much better fist of their second innings, former England opener Marcus Trescothick top-scoring with 81 as they racked up 335 all out. That meant Nottinghamshire needed 212 for victory, which looked a tricky target after Alfonso Thomas removed Matthew Wood, and Mark Wagh and Bilal Shafayat also fell. Second-placed Durham put pressure on Nottinghamshire by wrapping up a 43-run victory over Kent at Chester-le-Street, to take over at the top at least briefly.
