Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News (August 7, 2008) Aug. 7--State labor regulators fined the Salisbury Fire Department on Wednesday after finding safety violations, classified as serious, during the March 7 fire that killed two Salisbury firefighters. The North Carolina Department of Labor slapped Salisbury fire officials with fines of $6,563 for five violations of three different safety regulations, including two relating to the fire at Salisbury Millwork. In its investigation report, inspectors found Salisbury's first responders to the Martin Luther King Boulevard building did not adequately monitor the fire's progression by posting crews outside to notify firefighters of any changes in its behavior.
