Sonia cheers Indian contingent at Olympic ceremony

Beijing (PTI): Congress President Sonia Gandhi sprung to her feet and waved enthusiastically when the contingent of Indian sports persons marched past the National Stadium here during the gala opening of the Olympics on Friday. Clad in a purple Banarasi saree with a golden border, Sonia stood up as soon as the 56-member Indian delegation led by shooter Rajyawardhan Singh Rathore entered the 'Bird's Nest' stadium at the Olympic Village in the Chinese capital. Sonia, 61, who arrived here on Thursday on a three-day visit, is accompanied by her MP son Rahul, daughter Priyanka, son-in-law Robert Vadra and two grand-children.
