Truck tax could also come to Estonia

Estonia might also start taxing heavy trucks for using roads, many European states already use a similar tax and Finland is planning to establish it. Currently, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications is trying to find out if and on what conditions such a tax would have a point, deputy secretary general Eero Pärgmäe told postimees.ee. In reality, such tax will surely not be ready to be gathered starting from the January of 2009. “A general decision, whether to try and develop this specific tax or not will probably be made during a month or two,” said Pärgmäe. Estonia already takes an annual tax from heavy trucks to cover the general damage to the environment. Another option to tax would be to gather road tax, like many European states.
