Sixteen people were taken to hospital last night after a coach carrying a group of British scouts in Canada was in a head-on collision with an articulated lorry. The party of 102, from Lancashire, included scouts aged 14 to 18 and scout leaders. A spokesman, Simon Carter, said none of them had suffered life-threatening injuries but some had broken bones or were in shock. "Two coaches were travelling on a motorway. One was involved in an accident with an articulated lorry," he said. "We have a team of people in the UK speaking to parents and letting them know the majority of the group is okay." Lancashire scouts officer David Thornton said the group had flown out to Canada on July 28 and was due back on Monday.
