FAI Development Squad 2-0 Newcastle United A goal in each half by Niall Lanigan (pen) and Daniel Purdy was enough for the FAI’s Under-15 Development squad to seal their second win in three matches at the UMBRO Galway Cup on Thursday. The FAI squad, comprising a selection of players from the association’s Emerging talent centres around the country, had defeated Ipswich Town 2-0 in their campaign opener on Tuesday before playing out a scoreless draw against Leeds United. The top two of the five teams in the Elite groups qualify for Saturday morning’s semi-finals. Seven points accrued from their three games so far puts them in a strong position to advance heading into Friday’s last group match against the Donegal Schoolboys’ league team at Drom Park (3.50pm).
