India's Singh storms out of the gate at PGA Championship (AFP)

BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Michigan (AFP) - Jeev Milkha Singh, the son of one of India's greatest runners, shrugged off an injury to make a flying start at the 7.5 million dollar PGA Championship on Thursday. Singh, playing with an inflamed tendon in his right ankle, finished strongly with two late birdies for a two-under-par 68 at Oakland Hills. "I've been wearing a brace the last four weeks," he said. "I injured it at the French Open (in late June). I haven't played any practice rounds for the last seven weeks and it's worked for me pretty good. "I've won twice, once in Europe at the Austrian Open and two weeks ago in Japan." Singh's doctor told him to take four weeks off to relieve the inflammation, but this is a bad time of the year for that, with the majors rolling around in quick succession.
