Cuban Choir Awarded at International Contest in Spain

The Chamber Choir of Matanzas, conducted by Dr. Jose Antonio Mendez Valencia, won the Public's prize and the third place in Polyphony at a contest ended last Sunday at Torrevieja, Spain. HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 4 (acn) The choir represented Cuba in the 54th International Habanera and Polyphony Contest, one of the most important of its type in Spanish America, with a twenty-minute program, in compliance with the event’s requirements. The site of the contest (www.habaneras.org), reports that the Cubans were preceded in polyphony by the Children Choir from San Juan, Puerto Rico, conducted by Carmen Acevedo, and the Cantemus Mixed Choir, from Hungary, the conductor of which ―Soma Szabo―, won also the award for best conduction.
