Metairie man drowns trying to save swimmer in Florida waters

09:04 PM CDT on Monday, August 4, 2008 Tom Planchet / Eyewitness News A Metairie man drowned while trying to save a swimmer in trouble off the shores of Florida’s Gulf Coast Sunday afternoon. According to witnesses, 56-year-old Sam Maggio went in to the waters off Perdido Key to try to save a swimmer who had problems in the rough surf generated by Tropical Storm Edouard.
