Weekend hots up - but rain on way

Britain is expected to bask in sunshine this weekend, with forecasters saying it could be the hottest day of the year. The hottest temperature so far this year, 29.1C (84.4F) was recorded in Cranwell, Lincolnshire, on Friday and forecasters predict more of the same. But the British summer will remain to remain true to form, with the threat of the occasional heavy shower or even thunderstorm ever present. Temperatures are expected to hit 28C (82.4F) in the South East, and most of the UK is likely to see some sunshine. Forecaster Gareth Harvey of MeteoGroup, the weather division of the Press Association, said the fine weather would last well into next week, but warned the sunshine would be punctuated by thundery showers.
