Firth backs Oxfam's charity effort

Hollywood actor Colin Firth is among fellow thespians, writers and musicians who are backing a charity drive to fight starvation in East Africa. Oxfam is appealing for funds to expand the emergency response in Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea and northern Kenya, as soaring food prices have left millions hungry and on the edge of destitution. Mamma Mia! star Firth, along with fellow actors John H annah and Daniela Nardini, author Iain Banks and musician Sandi Thom, have all backed the drive. The Pride and Prejudice star said: "I travelled out with Oxfam to Ethiopia in 2005 and was inspired by the beauty of the country and its people.
