BY KEITH HERBERT | keith.herbert@newsday.com A New York City firefighter from Smithtown drowned in Lake Tahoe while trying to rescue his 10-year-old son in the lake's chilly waters, according to published reports. Funeral services for Martin Simmons, 41, are scheduled for Monday in Smithtown, according to the Fire Department of New York City's Emerald Society Pipes and Drums Web site. Simmons was a firefighter with Ladder 111 in Brooklyn, according to the Web site. Simmons was with his son, wife and his son's uncle in a boat Monday in the lake along the border between Simmons dove into 9 feet of water, as did the uncle, who helped save the boy, the report states.
