Suit: Health Care Staffer Sold Meth to Resident: Firm Ran Group Homes for State

KRT) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Jul. 24--A group home staff member repeatedly sold drugs -- including meth -- to a 20-year-old developmentally disabled man she was supposed to be caring for, according to a lawsuit pending in District Court. William "Bob" McKenzie was a resident at La Ladera House in Los Lunas, operated by Res-Care New Mexico Inc., under an agreement with the New Mexico Department of Health. While he was there, his use of the substances worsened his disabilities and caused outbursts that led to the deterioration of his "already tenuous psychological condition," the lawsuit claims. An outburst on Christmas Day 2005 was so severe that McKenzie, during an unsupervised visit with his mother, was taken to behavioral health emergency services at Kaseman Presbyterian Hospital, according to the lawsuit.
