Men arrested in diesel theft

Police chased two through New Iberia From staff reports • July 24, 2008 Two New Iberia men were arrested after leading Iberia Parish sheriff's deputies on a short vehicle pursuit Wednesday morning. Brandon J. Smith, 17, and the passenger, Jarrad J. Anthony, both of New Iberia, face theft and trespass charges after officers identified them as suspects in the theft of diesel fuel from a local farm. Around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday, deputies reported to the theft in the 4600 block of Rip Van Winkle Road, according to a news release. The farm's owner was able to describe the suspects' vehicle as a maroon pickup, and deputies spotted the pair shortly after on Rip Van Winkle Road.
