Irishman Padraig Harrington's victory in the Open golf tournament was watched by a peak audience of 4.7 million viewers last night, Sunday July 20. Coverage of Harrington's retention of the title brought an average of 3.3 million - a 25% share – to BBC1 between 2.30pm and 7.10pm, according to unofficial overnight figures. Ratings peaked for the 15 minutes from 6.15pm. Earlier, ITV1's live coverage of the German formula one grand prix picked up 3.3 million and a 32% share between midday and 3pm. A new episode of ITV1's drama Midsomer Murders pulled in the biggest audience of the day with 6.7 million and a 28% share between 8pm and 10pm. BBC2's motoring show Top Gear came a competitive second in the 8pm slot, with 6.1 million and a 26% share over an hour – just 100,000 off its highest rating of the series so far for its launch...
