Arab foreign ministers held an emergency meeting in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, Saturday to discuss the latest developments in relations between Sudan and the international community. The emergency summit was called after the International Criminal Court indicted Sudan's president on July 14. The ICC prosecutor has indicted President Omar al-Bashir on charges of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes that took place in the Darfur region. Sudanese government officials said they requested the Arab League meeting in order to show that the country's judicial system is capable of addressing alleged crimes in the western region of Darfur.
